Home made 3
inch down pipe
I am cheap-I need to be because
I am a full time student and I have many other car projects that all need some
money spent on them here and there…
I decided to build my own 3 inch
down pipe to save a little money. I bought two 45 degree 3 inch mandrel bends
from J.C.Whitney for around $40. I used about the first 1.5 to 2 inches of a
stock dp.
Toconnect the 3 inch pipe to the
stock pipe I cut 8 small slits in the 3 inch pipe and then bent the “tabs” in
so that the inside dia was about the same as the out side dia of the stock
pipe. Then I just welded it all together.
I also welded a 3” to 3” header
reducer (two for $17.99 from Summit racing) to the down pipe and welded the
other one to my cutout (also from Summit). This way I can easily take the
exhaust off if I need to take the trany out or something.
